We all suffer from something. It doesn’t matter what it is…suffering is suffering. Just like love is a universal language, suffering is universal as well. It’s not my intention to sound gloomy today –but I know somebody out there needs to be lifted and encouraged …
Parts of Psalm 105 refer to one of my favorite stories in the Bible ~ the story of Joseph, in the Old Testament…
“Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them—Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.” Psalm 105: 17-19
Focus on the word “iron” (they placed his neck in an iron collar). All of the sorrow, all of the loss, and all of the burdens we’ve endured (or are now enduring – physically, emotionally, financially…etc), the struggles of our souls… all contribute to the development of iron tenacity, strength, firmness, determination, and fearlessness. These are all traits that make a mighty foundation of noble character.
But all the words in the world don’t help when you’re in middle of a crisis or bad situation…all you can see is two feet in front of you, and the only thing you feel is confusion and pain. I know. I’ve been there. Having this Muscle Disease has caused me to search for answers as to why suffering has to happen. I’ve read the Bible cover to cover many times in search of answers. I’ve read testimonies from people who have suffered. I have read everything about suffering that I could get my hands on…and I got the same message or answer over and over—suffering is God’s way of instilling iron into our spiritual lives, and since there’s no other way to develop our character, or make our moral nature strong as iron, He allows it. Some people cannot accept this…but I know, that I know it’s true.
My “Streams in the Desert” devotional says it wonderfully. I love how the author puts it… “Are the best years of your life slipping away while you suffer enforced monotony? Are you afflicted with opposition, misunderstandings, and the scorn of others? Do your afflictions seem as thick as the undergrowth confronting someone hiking through a jungle? Then take heart! Your time is not wasted, for God is simply putting you through His iron regimen. Your iron crown of suffering precedes your golden crown of glory, and iron is entering your soul to make it strong and brave.”
I love ya, and hope you have a great day!
