“The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.” Proverb 24: 5
Oh Wow, as soon as I read this… I was reminded of 1Timothy 4: 8 that says, “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” How about you? Can you say you’re in shape both physically and spiritually? Our society puts a great deal more emphasis on physical fitness, but our spiritual health is so much more important! Our physical bodies are susceptible to disease and injury, but our faith is what gets us through anything! Are you developing your spiritual muscles?
Think about it… The athlete who has wisdom—who assesses the situation, plans and strategizes—has an advantage over a physically stronger, but unwise opponent. Wisdom is vital, and doesn’t Solomon tell us that the beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord? Do you think the small boy David had a chance of defeating Goliath without having some spiritual muscles?
“So don’t go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers.” Proverb 24: 6
It is foolish, it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for advice when making any kind of major decision or taking on any big project. Find good advisers… especially seek advice from those who have succeeded in what you’re about to do. If you do that, you’ll find different alternatives and perhaps expand your views. One good example of this in my life is when I started to write my first book…yes, my FIRST book. The idea I have now is to write Volumes (Vol. 1, Vol.2, Vol. 3 …etc) leading up to my physical healing! The thought behind this is that you need to see the good, the bad, and the ugly; and take the journey of persevering with me in faith. It’s exciting! I’m working on Vol. 2 now
Anyway, when I first started writing, I asked many of my friends to give me their feedback and some of their valuable input. I was able to compile a great memoir with some nuggets and jewels, things I didn’t even consider adding to my manuscript. The finished project is one which I believe, God is using as one small vessel to draw people to Him!
“If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small.” Proverb 24: 10
Having a Chronic Illness/Disease makes me an expert on this. Times of trouble can be useful. They can show you who you really are—what kind of character you’ve developed. In addition, they can help you grow stronger. When Jeremiah questioned God because of the trouble he faced, God asked how he ever expected to face big challenges if the little ones tired him out (Jeremiah 12: 5). Don’t complain about your problems. The trouble you face today is training you to be strong for the more difficult situations you’ll face in the future.
