Armor of God

There are so many perks to being a follower of Christ…Salvation, Having a relationship with The Creator of the universe, being a Friend of God …etc.

But I love how the Holy Spirit brings understanding. I am currently doing a Bible study on Spiritual Warfare. Sadly, there are many people unaware that we are living in the midst of an ongoing battle with Satan who, contrary to popular belief, is alive and well on planet Earth. The Bible couldn’t be more clear when it speaks of this in Ephesians 6:12, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

Once we surrender to Christ’s Lordship, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit puts a seal on our hearts – this identifies us as God’s property. Ownership has changed hands. When this happens, we also get a giant bull’s eye placed on our backs. We become targets. The enemy will do whatever he can to destroy the work of Christ…His church. But do you remember Jesus’ words to Peter? “Upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” (Matthew 16:18)

God always gives us a battle plan. He tells us how we can overcome. In this particular case, He tells us to, “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.”

I love it! To withstand the evil attacks, we must depend on God’s strength, and use every piece of His armor.

What I am planning for the next few days (or however long it takes), is to pull apart each piece of armor, and share some really cool insights I’ve gotten. By studying the Word…God can show us ways to see something in His Word differently, even though we’ve read it a hundred times before!
