“Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?” John 11:40
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the Holy Spirit bring these words back to my mind? And I am always led back to the story of Lazarus, Mary and Martha…and how Jesus comforted Martha with these words.
Jesus was two days away (for traveling) when He heard of Lazarus’s sickness. Jesus intentionally delayed going to His sick friend…..Lazarus died because Jesus wasn’t there to heal him. Upon hearing of Lazarus’s illness, Jesus said,
“Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” John 11:4
Romans 8:28 says that, “All things work out for the good of those that love God, and are called according to his purpose.”
As believers, any trial we face is going to bring glory to God. It’s going to all work out for the best. Do you believe that? You should. You have God’s Word on it, and He doesn’t lie. The hardest thing is waiting…but the waiting builds up our faith, and draws us closer to our Creator.
Jesus delayed coming because He was waiting for Lazarus to die. He was about to do a great miracle, which would turn the hearts of many towards Him…and this would bring Him great glory.
God’s timing, especially His delays, may make us think He’s not answering our prayers. Listen to what 1 Peter 5:6 says:
“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in His good time, he will lift you up in honor.”
“In his good time.” My friends, whatever’s going on…keep clinging to Him by faith. He knows all about it, and promises to lift you up.
We’re going to pick up on this story tomorrow…
