Isaiah 40: 31

“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

Isn’t it so true that all of us know someone who has learned to fly high with God above their circumstances? It could be cancer or quadriplegia; it could be the death of a loved one; it could be a financial loss… a mental or emotional crisis… having to endure any season of darkness or solitude… you know where I’m going, don’t you?

We all know Christians who seem to blossom when their material circumstances are the most harsh and severe. I may be describing you…

It’s a great thing when we can look at something physical and learn a spiritual truth. My devotion today was about this very thing… about “Flowers that Grow in the Shade.” The author spoke about areas in her garden that never catch direct sunlight, and yet how the flowers in those corners devoid of sunlight seem to flourish.

I think about my own life, how those treasures found in my darkness shine so brightly with the light of Christ. And I know that some of you can say the very same thing. The treasures of Christ’s grace, love, joy and peace shine. But it seemed as though they had needed the circumstance of darkness to draw out their secret and inner brilliance and beauty.

So my friend, if you’re surrounded by some kind of darkness… it may be threatening to consume you, keep holding onto God. This is the time when He will pour out His treasures in darkness for you, and you will be taken in flight with God above your circumstances. It’s how He works!

“I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.”
