Have you ever seen a sign that read, “He is Faithful?” That’s it…no other words…just, “He is Faithful.”
Before becoming a believer, I’d see these signs, and totally be in the dark as to what this meant…”What is He faithful about, or What exactly does that mean?” The Vines Bible Dictionary defines “faithful” as to be trusted or to be reliable. If you look up “faithful” in a Bible Concordance (this is a great tool ~ where you can look up a word, and it will show you every scripture containing that word), you will find so many verses that have the word “faithful” in them, or derivatives (faith, faithfully, and faithfulness). Here are just a few:
“Your faithfulness extends to every generation as enduring as the earth you created.”
Psalm 119:90
“My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power.” Psalm 89:24
“Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh every morning.” Lamentations 3:23
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
The scriptures above talk about God’s faithfulness. But the Holy Spirit will produce faithfulness in us:
“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23
“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in larger ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.” Luke 16:10
“This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle off Christ Jesus. I am writing to God’s holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful followers of Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 1:1
“Faithful followers of Christ Jesus” ~ what would it take for us to be characterized as a faithful follower? We have to hold on fast to our faith…take it one day at a time (otherwise we’d get overwhelmed), and obey God in the details of our lives Then like the Ephesians, we’ll be known as a faithful follower of Christ.
