THE LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.” Psalm 23

I am so grateful that our God had David pen these words. Aren’t you? When we’re in the middle of the battle (though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death) is when our souls need to devour and digest these life-giving words. They keep us on the right track. They keep hope alive. Life is uncertain, but God’s Word is unchangeable.

Our Shepherd knows the paths of righteousness, and it’s our job to follow. To the majority, death has the final word. Only one person can walk with us through death’s dark valley and bring us to safe ground–the God of Life, our shepherd.  As I’m writing this, a dream I once had plays over in my mind.  I believe the Holy Spirit put these words into my heart to comfort and encourage me, as I was battling a powerful spirit of discouragement.  I was looking up through the skylight we had over our bed…

I saw a really bright, shimmering star. In my spirit, I heard the Lord tell me…“I am that bright star.” Clouds rolled in and completely covered the star, and all I could see was darkness. Then He encouraged my spirit by saying,“Your problems and trials will sometimes be as thick as these clouds, making it impossible to see me.  But I am still there.” The clouds rolled away, and I could see the star again. He continued, “Just as these clouds dissipated, yours will too.”
