We’re cruising right through the Minor Prophets. Only two books left… Zechariah and Malachi. Haggai, Malachi, and Zechariah were three prophets sent by God to minister and encourage the exiles who were rebuilding the temple in Judah. Zechariah is one of our most important prophetic books, giving detailed messianic references that were clearly fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ. God spoke to Zechariah through visions.
I love prophecy, as I’m sure you do as well. Zechariah has fourteen chapters, and we will dissect each one. There will be a lot of scripture in each post. Try not to miss one, as we will see an abundance of God’s prophetic words. In this book, there is a future message to us who are living in the church age—the return of Christ! As we read through each chapter, let’s be astonished as we wait for the fulfillment of the awesome promise of our Messiah! The Messiah came as a servant to die for us. He will return as a victorious King. At that time, He will usher in peace throughout the world!
Here, God was warning the people not to act like their ancestors. They disobeyed Him and reaped the consequences—His punishment, the exile into Babylon. We must take heed from this… we, WE ALONE, are responsible before God for our actions. We cannot use heredity or our environment as excuses for our sins! We are free to choose—we are individually free to choose. We must think for ourselves. It really is a matter of life and death!
Zechariah had two important visions before Chapter One ends. We will go over these next time. Stay tuned!
